The Northern Artists’ Film Programme is a selection of cutting-edge work from innovative artists across the north, featuring work from students and new talent as well as established filmmakers. Work was submitted through open call and selected by a professional panel.

For one day Quays Culture are presenting a diverse programme of artists’ films, including Rose Butler‘s digital short The Fairs.

Filmed from the quiet edges of a city centre car park The Fairs presents a dual-screen work of two fairground rides appearing and then disappearing behind old industrial buildings and the John Lewis department store. The film evokes questions of escape, control, voyeurism, immersion and complicity.
