Hu Leping – Chinese Arts and Calligraphy exhibition opens at SIA on 24 May 2017

An exhibition of the works of celebrated Chinese painter and calligrapher Hu Leping opens Wednesday 24 May at the Sheffield Institute of Arts, featuring a live painting during the opening event, which will be auctioned with proceeds donated to St. Luke’s Hospice. At the closing evening, Hu will be giving an artist’s lecture.

Born in Beijing in 1955, Hu studied under celebrated artist Mr Wangren. Working in the tradition of Chinese painting, Hu has gained critical acclaim throughout China – his work has been widely exhibited in China, is collected internationally and has been presented as gifts to foreign leaders by the Chinese government. Hu is currently the Deputy Secretary-General of the Beijing Painting and Calligraphy Art Research Association, the honorary president of American Chinese Art Society, the senior adviser of American Painting and Calligraphy Institute, the executive director of Hu Leping International Center for the Arts; besides, Hu has served as a visiting professor at Beijing University Institute of Chinese as a Foreign Education, and he taught foreign students Chinese traditional freehand painting more than ten years at Beijing University.
