Dylan Thomas expert, John Goodby, on Radio 4 with Melvyn Bragg

Professor John Goodby

We’re excited to share the news that Hallam’s Professor John Goodby will be a guest on Melvyn Bragg’s In Our Time programme, on BBC Radio 4 this Thursday 16 June at 9.00 am.

John is the leading international expert on Dylan Thomas’ work and as In Our Time has an audience of two million, this makes his contribution even more significant for him, his department, and the University.

Dylan Thomas is one of our most well-loved poets, the author of Under Milk Wood and a media and literary presence with rock-star qualities. Bob Dylan borrowed his name, he appears on the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper LP cover, and he has many celebrity fans, such as George Clooney, no less!

John will take part in a 42-minute conversation about Thomas’ work and ideas with Lord Bragg and two other academics: Dr Nerys Williams from University College Dublin and Dr Leo Mellor from Cambridge University. There is also a popular podcast that accompanies the programme.

Professor Goodby has many media credits and is the editor of Thomas’s Collected Poems(Orion, 2014) and the recently discovered fifth notebook of Dylan Thomas (Bloomsbury, 2020).
