Sheffield Hallam University’s packaging design team, Design Futures, are celebrating after winning the distinguished national title of Design Team of the Year in the UK Packaging Awards – the leading industry awards in the country. Other category winners were some of the UK’s largest companies for work with major UK brands.

Design Futures won the accolade for the wide range of packaging design project work which has been completed over the past 12 months including offering support to local SME businesses through the Sheffield Innovation Programme (SIP). It is the second time in three years that Design Futures, which is part of Sheffield Hallam’s Cultural, Communication and Computing Research Institute (C3RI), have won the Design Team of the Year Award, collected on the night by Peter Macqueen at the event at Grosvenor House Hotel, London on 23 November 2017.

John Kirkby, creative director of Design Futures, said: “The UK Packaging Awards are the leading industry awards and it is fabulous to see Sheffield Hallam’s name holding its own alongside major industry players. It is remarkable for a team of our size and based within a university, rather than a traditional agency.
“The submission requires evidence of project work completed over the year and the diverse nature of our output undoubtedly sets us apart from the competition. The judges saw evidence of our work supporting local start-ups, growing brands and major established names as well as our testing and research and development work.”
