Dr Becky Shaw, Reader in Fine Art and Postgraduate Tutor, has been selected as one of five international artists to participate in WATERSHED+: Dynamic Environment Lab which will take place in Calgary between 10 January and 15 January.

The WATERSHED+ Lab is a concept that immerses artists with the intent to support critical thinking, shared knowledge and to bring contemporary artists’ practices into the work of the Utilities and Environment Protection Department. This issues-based Lab encourages artists to explore and experiment in response to the context of Calgary’s water management system and the city. Following the Lab, artists will submit a proposal for a public work.

This Lab has grown from previous WATERSHED+ initiatives – UEP staff laboratories, artist residencies, permanent and temporary projects – aiming to renew and strengthen emotional connections between Calgarians and their watershed. Further information on the city of Calgary’s public art plan is available here and details of the WATERSHED+ project are here.

Dr Becky Shaw is Post Graduate Research Tutor in Art and Design, and researcher at the Art and Design Research Centre at SHU.
