Faculty Leadership Team Update – Shaping Futures: Getting into our stride

Dr Rebecca Khanna, Assistant Dean, Academic Development

Across HWB we are really getting into our stride with a broad range of activities to support the mission of Shaping Futures, alongside all the specific course-level developments, to meet the needs of students and employers.

An informative website is now available to provide updates linked to the ACHIEVE programme, which runs under the Shaping Futures Board. ACHIEVE is a programme of work connected to innovation, research and practice across Sheffield Hallam that focusses on not just improving, but reconsidering, the student experience. It brings together all the University-wide projects specifically focusing on student retention and progression, the SHU Employability Plan, enabling inclusion and equality, assessment and feedback

In HWB there are several focal points where you can access information and contribute. Within course teams and departments significant steps have been made in shaping up course improvement plans and recently released department overviews and actions plans for this year. You can take a look here, and your Department Quality/LTA lead can also provide you with further information.

Departmental Boards provide a working space for staff to work with students as a community, to shape and inform the learning partnership and make decisions about priorities, alongside noting progress and good practice. As part of the agreed HWB governance structure, we have also just started a student-staff faculty committee ‘Engage’ co-chaired by Terri Vasey, Faculty Academic Student Representative and Chandi Patel, Head of Department Social Work, Social Care, Community Studies. Watch for further news.

There is also the HWB Shaping Futures Board Information Hub reporting into the University Shaping Futures Board at which all departments and student service teams are represented. You should also receive updates via your Department or Service team meetings. Board members are keen to hear about any methods you can recommend to enhance involvement and communication around this strand, please contact your representative on the Board or Emma D’agostino-Moore, Board Secretary at hwbed@exchange.shu.ac.uk

Let’s continue to move forward together in 2018!
