Ways to get to the Peak District

I sometimes catch an 81, 82, 83 or 88 bus from The Moor (Moorhead Stop MH2) to Endcliffe Park. Once there, I take the Woodland Walk then follow the Whitely Woods trail and continue to follow the signs for the Peak District.

Alternatively, I get an 88, 271 or 65 from The Moor (Moorhead Stop MH2) to the Fox House to start my walk.

For either journey, a student single costs just £1.20 with your student card. Just show this on the bus to the driver.

Another option is getting the train to Hope Valley and doing a circular trail. For this route I get the train from Sheffield City Centre to Hope (Derbyshire) station. You can buy an open return ticket for £4.50 if you have a 16-25 Railcard or 26-30 Railcard.

A good free App I use is called All Trails and I use this to navigate my through new walks.

Treat yourself

When I’m out and about on a walk, I make sure I pack some snacks to keep my energy up. I either take a packed lunch from home which I’ve already bought as part of my food budget, or buy a £3 meal deal from Sainsbury’s which includes a sandwich, a drink and a snack.

Last time I was at The Fox House I treated myself to a £2.50 hot chocolate, or you could have some delicious triple cooked chips which cost £2.75.

Tips!
Make sure you wrap up warm as it tends to be a bit cooler up in the peaks, and bring sensible footwear like trainers or walking boots.

Another great tip is to pack a portable charger – my phone’s battery drains really fast in the cold and especially using data to map my route and take pictures.

How to make this cost around £5

• Return bus to Fox House (£2.40) + hot chocolate (£2.50) + snacks from home (£0) = £4.90
• Return bus to Fox House (£2.40) + chips (£2.75) + water from home (£0) = £5.15
• Bus to Endcliffe Park and walk to the Peaks and back afterwards (£1.20) + Sainsbury’s Meal Deal (£3) = £4.20
• Return train ticket to Hope Valley (£4.50) + packed lunch from home (£0) = £4.50
