It’s now only a few weeks until staff begin moving into Charles Street and planning is in full swing ahead of welcoming our students after Easter.

To support staff moving into Charles Street this month, we have developed a Building Information Guide (BIG) in partnership with the faculty. This is available online now at https://blogs.shu.ac.uk/charlesstreet/. This provides staff with a one-stop source of operational information for Charles Street and includes everything from health and safety guidance and IT support, to where to make a cup of tea! .A similar guide has been produced to support those  moving into Arundel later this year, and this can be accessed at https://blogs.shu.ac.uk/arundelbuilding.

In addition, a number of tours of Charles Street have been arranged by the Learning Enhancement and Academic Development (LEAD) team, supported by estates, to allow faculty staff to visit the building before any official moves. These have begun this week with a number of open orientation sessions and continue into next week with more focused academic inductions and special sessions which will look at teaching and learning in the building and explore the different features available, including the ‘turn and learn’ seating in the lecture theatre. This provides a chance for academics to reflect on how they can enhance practice and get a feel for how learners will adapt to the building.

We are also planning an ‘open house’ afternoon on Thursday 17 March for staff across the University to get a glimpse of Charles Street before staff move in.
