Useful updates from IT – WordPress downtime on 12 June, printer upgrades and more

You may have noticed a change to your desktop print widget

PaperCut has changed the font to red but it’s nothing to worry about http://bit.ly/2socS7m

The University’s old email archive service (Enterprise Vault) will be removed soon

Following the move of all staff email to Office 365, the Enterprise Vault service will be decommissioned at the end of this month.  All your previously stored emails should be in your current email archive but if you have concerns or believe some of your old emails are missing, please contact IT Help before the vault is deleted.

WordPress sites unavailable on Tuesday 12 June

To maintain security and keep applications up to date, Digital Technology Services needs to upgrade WordPress (blogs.shu.ac.uk) to a newer version. This is planned for Tuesday 12 June 2018. All sites on blogs.shu.ac.uk will be unavailable to read as well as edit from 7am to 1pm – although we will try to have the sites back up and running sooner if the upgrade completes successfully ahead of time.

There will not be any noticeable change to the look, feel or functionality of blogs as a result of the upgrade.

MFD printers being upgraded across campus

Digital Technology Services is rolling out 166 new multi-function device (MFD) printers across campus as part of its ongoing maintenance programme. The upgraded printers will be similar in look and functionality to the old ones but will offer faster printing, more reliability and cost savings for the University. Local contacts are being given installation dates and details about delivery to circulate to users and the printers will be replaced with minimal disruption. For more information please see this blog post.

Do you still have/use a fax machine?  If so, please let us know

The University will be transferring its fax services to a new platform which integrates with MFDs and email.  Old fax machines will be switched off and new numbers assigned to them unless there is a business need for the old numbers to be retained.  To enable us to understand how faxes are being used across the University, please let us know whether you have a machine in your area by completing this form.

If you have any questions – or have a fax machine which is unused or obsolete, please contact Ian Falkingham on x6143.
