Volunteer for Clearing

During Clearing we need to ensure that applicants are able to make an application to the University as quickly and smoothly as possible. Over 120 members of staff from across the University have supported the clearing operation over the last two years and feedback is that they really enjoyed the day and the direct contribution they were able to make to meeting student recruitment targets.

We need your help again in August 2017.

We are looking for staff, from across the University, to join our clearing team by becoming a clearing call centre operative.  You must be available for one day of training on one of the following dates:

  • Monday 31 July 9am – 5pm
  • Tuesday 1 August 9am – 5pm
  • Wednesday 9 August 9am – 5pm
  • Thursday 10 August 9am – 5pm

You must then be able to work on Clearing Day: Thursday 17 August from 6.30am – 6.30pm.

What would you be expected to do?

  • Answer and make phone calls in a confident and friendly manner from applicants who would like to apply to study at Sheffield Hallam – training will be provided
  • Collate applicant details and enter them onto our Student Management System (SI) – training will be provided
  • Determine if they have the correct qualifications to apply and move through the application process – training will be provided
  • Transfer applicants to speak to a member of our academic team – training will be provided

Please note we expect all staff to get line manager approval, prior to putting your name forward as you will need to be released from your normal role for 2 days. If you work part time and these are not your normal work days we would expect you to arrange  to swap days with your manager.
