Social Media for learning in HE conference at SHU

On Friday 16 December SHU will host #SocMedHE16the second Social Media for Learning in Higher Education conference. This year we have 35 papers, workshops and thunderstorms from 24 universities, exploring the potential of Social Media for Empowering Learners in HE.

If you are interested in attending, please visit the conference site to take a look at the abstracts, and book a place.  SHU staff benefit from a reduced conference rate of £150 (you will need an activity/cost code to book, and the Events Team will arrange a finance transfer after 16 December).

Students at #SocMedHE16: Last year we welcomed a selection of SHU students to attend as delegates, and others to help run the conference on the day, consequently the conference benefited from their perspective and involvement. This year, in addition to ensuring that students are involved in presenting papers, we’re making free places available for SHU and external students.  Seven places will be available for students to attend as delegates.  We may ask them to write a blog post, or be interviewed; they may be influencing formal or informal social media use in their course; studying aspects of social media, or just really engaged in its use for their personal and professional development – we don’t mind! Above all, they need to be interested in, and likely to benefit from the conference.

Please let your students know of this opportunity, and encourage them to find out more and apply at https://blogs.shu.ac.uk/socmedhe/student. Although this offer is not open to PhD students, or to staff who also study as students, they can benefit from an early bird reduced student rate of £80.

  • Students have until end Monday 21 November to apply
  • They must be available to attend the whole day at Charles Street on Friday 16 December from 9am to 4pm
  • The places do not include the pre-conference social, transport or accommodation
  • Unsuccessful applicants can still book onto the conference, and we will hold the early bird student rate for them
