Fitness to Study

Change effective from:

2016/17

Summary of change

Student Fitness to Study Regulations were approved by Academic Board on 15 December 2015. These new regulations build upon and formalise the support already provided by the University to support and manage students who are experiencing severe medical or personal issues.  The circumstances experienced by these students go way beyond our definition of extenuating circumstances and pose serious questions as to whether students are actually fit to study at the present time.

What’s different?

The regulations provide:

  • a framework for how cases will be reviewed and how fitness to study will be assessed
  • a timeframe which recognises the importance of prompt action whilst maintaining the need for thorough review and fair process
  • the opportunity to appeal such decisions.
