Acclaimed restaurateur dressed for doctorate success

One of the region’s most acclaimed restaurateurs has collected an honorary doctorate for services to the food industry at a Sheffield Hallam graduation ceremony today.

Max Fischer, owner of the celebrated Fischer’s at Baslow Hall, Derbyshire, collected his honorary degree in the final Sheffield Hallam graduation ceremony watched by students from Sheffield Business School.

Max is widely admired for his work showcasing the region as a food destination and championing local and home-grown produce. Tables at Fischer’s have been in demand ever since he has been in business in the area.

And his personal commitment to the importance of future generations has seen many young people – including several Sheffield Hallam alumni – enjoy excellent starts to their careers at Fischer’s.

Born in Germany in 1951, Max has worked at some of Europe’s top restaurants, including Restaurant Nicholas in Paris, the Bell Inn at Aston Clinton, the Operakällaren in Stockholm, and the Maison de la Bouche in Brussels.
