The University has been awarded ‘Gold’ status in the Business in the Community Environment Index 2013. This index scores businesses for their commitment to sustainability and their environmental policies and procedures.
Scoring 95% for environmental management, the University is the best performing education institution across Yorkshire and the Humber, the East Midlands and the North East. We are also the only university in the world to hold both ISO 50001 and ISO14001 status for our environmental and energy management.
We have also demonstrated cuts to our carbon emissions and introduced behaviour-change campaigns through the recent ‘Switch it Off’ project which is being promoted as an exemplar project by the Carbon Trust.
