SHU Preparations

Sheffield Hallam has a timeline for its REF preparations.

Internal research assessment exercises are run at 18 month intervals. These:

  • Allow members of staff who have produced outputs within the census dates to submit the ones they believe to be the highest quality for review and feedback. This is designed to be a constructive and developmental experience for individual researchers
  • Give local research co-ordinators a comprehensive picture of the quality and quantity of research going on, to help inform strategic decisions and build towards the final REF submission

For each REF the University produces a Code of Practice. This sets out how it manages issues such as inclusion and selection of outputs in a fair and transparent way, and ensures equality and diversity is embedded into processes.

The Code of Practice for REF 2021 was submitted to Research England and has been approved.
