With Andy Stratton
Thursday 12th July, 12 noon till 1 pm, and Stoddart 7410, City Campus
Wednesday 18th July, 12 noon till 1 pm, in Main Building DOO1, Collegiate Crescent
This project will use a Raspberry Pi (a simple computer designed to encourage people to programme) to set up a portable class-based wireless network, which could be used to support applications such as interactive online quizzes, or other more specialist software. These small-scale networks might be particularly valuable on field trips or other locations away from the university. However other advantages when used on campus are that lecturers could more easily keep track of student interactions in class and students are less likely to be able to surf the wider Internet and be distracted by online socialising.
This seminar will demonstrate this exciting new technology, and provide an opportunity to discuss its potential and to consider ideas for use within Higher Education. In particular, Andy is looking for collaborative partners who would like to try out the application with their own students, with Andy’s support.
Please book so that we can inform you if there are any changes to the session. Also please bring your mobile devices to the session.
For further ideas about mobile learning, keep an eye out for additional forthcoming sessions, e.g. the mobile strand at SHU’s Teaching and Learning Conference 2012 and also see relevant articles on the e-learning blog.
