In this case study, International Business students used screencasting software to present initial findings from a study into emerging markets as a Digital Poster presentation. The presentations were structured around four images arranged on one PowerPoint slide. Each image represented one aspect of their emerging market.
The Digital Posters method used a simple technology known as screencasting that combines the recording of a PC screen with an audio commentary. Students made their presentation as many times as they found useful using a talk, review and refine cyclical process. Their presentations lasted less than 5 minutes and students were encouraged to think aloud and hesitate as they made their recordings, thereby signalling to themselves what else they needed to research and think about. Later in the two hour workshop students reflected on aspects of this approach and the positive and negative aspect of making their posters. They were encouraged to share their posters using a Blackboard wiki so that they could compare their efforts to the posters made by their peers. Students were positive about this approach, saying it was an enjoyable and interesting way to engage with preparing academic writing.
