Many staff are using Turnitin with their students to improve referencing or teach about academic integrity. However Turnitin has a different interface than Blackboard which sometimes leads to staff confusion about how to set it up and how to access and interpret the reports it generates. To help with this, faculty e-learning advisers have created some screencast tutorials about using Turnitin for staff. The videos on that page should help explain the different aspects of using Turnitin.
Equally, students sometimes have trouble with understanding how to use Turnitin and its originality reports. Now there is a page with screencast tutorials for students which you can embed in your Blackboard site next to Turnitin submission points to help support your students. You can add this help for students to your site by following these simple steps (note on a team-taught module you may need to liaise with colleagues as to who will do this):
- At the location on the site you wish to add the resources, hover over the build content button and choose Create external link
- For Name, enter Turnitin support for students
- For URL, paste the address https://shuspace.shu.ac.uk/bbcswebdav/xid-1846482_4
- In description paste the following: “These video clips aim to support students with using Turnitin. They cover what Turnitin is, demonstrate how you use Turnitin, explain how to access and understand the feedback it provides and identify further support and resources. Click the link to access the videos. Note: requires audio.”
- IMPORTANT: For the option Open in New Window select ‘Yes’.
- Click Submit
Note that should any future updates to the videos take place, these will ‘pull through’ to the site automatically, meaning no further manual editing/updating on your part will be required.
If you need further support with Turnitin, you can find support contact details in the Bb-support tab in shuspace.
