Support for e-learning at Sheffield Hallam has evolved over the last couple of years. To find out where to go for the kind of help you need here’s a breakdown of what’s available :
Self-help
A comprehensive knowledge-base with step-by-step instructions for how to use Blackboard tools is available in the Bb-support tab in shuspace. In addition there are guides, screencasts (short videos that focus on an approach) and other materials to support your use of e-learning.
Technical support
We offer email and telephone support for technical queries. For support via email, please submit a request from the Bb-support tab in shuspace. For staff preferring to talk to someone directly telephone support is available on ext. 3874 . Once your query has been received, it will be passed to the right person based on the type of request, meaning you don’t need to worry whether you’re contacting the right place.
We aim to answer all technical support requests and queries within 2 working days.
Faculty-based e-learning advisers/assistants
Faculty-based e-learning advisers and assistants are available to support staff in a 1-to-1 and small group capacity with their e-learning development needs. Each faculty has taken a different approach to the type of support available, and each has their own schedule of development priorities and work to implement. Please contact your Faculty e-learning representative for more information.
Tailor-made support and development
The Learning and Teaching Institute can work directly with course teams; subject groups or similar to develop tailor-made support and development opportunities. Collaborating with central specialists and faculty e-learning staff they design resources, sessions or courses to meet the team’s specific e-learning needs. For example: to explore embedding effective e-learning techniques within the curriculum, or to plan for the integration of e-learning within your subject’s context. For more information about this approach please contact Helen Rodger h.m.rodger@shu.ac.uk
Finally, there will be many opportunities over the next few months to engage with developing your practice in e-learning, you’ll find information as it emerges in the Refreshing e-learning tab at the top of this page.
