HWB academic invited to work on major research project

Markos Klonizakis

We’re delighted to announce that Markos Klonizakis (lifestyle, exercise and nutrition improvement research group lead, Department of Nursing and Midwifery) has been invited to collaborate as an external adviser in a study aimed at advancing research in wound management. The study was recently funded with more than $1.4 million (£700,000) by the New Zealand Health Research Council.

The study is being led by Professor Andrew Jull of the University of Auckland and will focus on the role of hypochlorous acid on venous leg ulcer healing.

Speaking about his responsibilities as an external adviser, Markos said:

“I will be advising the research team on methodological and protocol implementation aspects, as well as supporting the translation of findings at the end of the study.

“This is a great opportunity for both myself and Sheffield Hallam University to collaborate with high-quality research team from a world-leading university in clinical, pre-clinical and health research, such as the University of Auckland. This allows us to remain in the forefront of wound management research, defining rather than following changes in this area.

“Personally, the invitation to be part of this team was a great honour as it recognises my contribution to the field. It will also allow me to gain first-hand experience of being involved in a large multi-site trial, which will be later used in work in more local areas. Furthermore, it will build a solid foundation for further collaborations and multi-national, major grant applications that will look in the wider role of exercise in wound management and rehabilitation.”
