Research grant awarded for radiography degree apprenticeships

Research grant awarded to explore stakeholder motivations for developing degree apprenticeships for the radiography profession.

Dr Trudy Sevens, Professional Lead for Diagnostic Imaging, in our Department of Allied Health Professions has successfully been awarded a College of Radiographers Industrial Partnership Scheme (CoRIPS) research grant. These awards aim to both enhance the research capacity of radiographers and implement the research strategy of the professional body.

The award is to support research exploring the expectations, motivations and perceptions of key stakeholders engaged with the three radiography related degree apprenticeship trailblazer groups; Diagnostic Radiography, Therapeutic Radiography and Sonography. There has been little previously published work relating to the challenges associated with trailblazer groups with most literature focussing on apprenticeship delivery.

It is envisaged that this research will highlight potential opportunities, challenges and barriers to the introduction of degree apprenticeship routes, allowing recommendations for solutions prior to the next phase of curriculum development and implementation.

The College of Radiographers commented that this work reflected a quality research proposal that would ‘cover an important and current professional topic’.

Congratulations to Trudy!
