Academic success linked to where students sit during lectures

Research carried out by Dr David Smith, senior lecturer in biochemistry, has found that where students sit in lectures can affect their performance. The research found those sitting on their own on the perimeter of lecture theatres did worse than average and students who sat in friendship groups tended to achieve similar grades. “Interaction is a key part of learning and knowing who the students are interacting with can be a great benefit when designing activities,” Dr Smith said. The research was reported on EurekAlert! and on the Marketscreener websites.
