Your guide to MAXIMUM ENERGY and training like a Champion

Dr Mayur Ranchordas, senior lecturer in sport and exercise nutrition and physiology at Sheffield Hallam University discusses the importance of balancing blood sugar to optimise energy levels.

By eating foods that score low to moderate on the glycaemic index (0-55) Dr. Ranchordas suggests this maintains energy levels for much longer. This generally means opting for wholegrains, leafy vegetables, fruit, nuts and seeds alongside sources of protein instead of reaching for starchy, refined foods that provide a sugar rush followed by an energy crash. Dr. Ranchordas also recently appeared on BBC1 Look North to discuss the diet and nutrition plan he developed for WBA Bantamweight Champion, Jaime McDonnell. The diet is very high in protein and has made a significant improvement in McDonnell’s performance levels. Twice a week Ranchordas measures McDonnell’s body fat in millimetres to ensure he has stuck to the plan and to adjust it accordingly. (Clip available on request).
