Professor Davina Porock, Assistant Dean Research and Innovation provides an update on the Creating Knowledge Implementation Plan.
The research and knowledge exchange objectives in our SHU strategy, ‘Transforming Lives’ are clear, ambitious and challenging.
Our research and partnerships will provide innovative, practical solutions to real-world challenges.
- We will be recognised internationally for research which has real social, economic and cultural impact
- We will identify and seize opportunities to lead in new and emerging areas
- We will apply research to enrich students’ learning and work with others to ensure translation into practice.
Over the past couple of weeks our newly appointed Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Global Engagement, Professor Roger Eccleston, has been presenting and consulting on the plans for research development and investment. The CKIP has now been launched. You can access the full Creating Knowledge Implementation Plan 2018 here but in summary there are six priorities:
- Establish 3-5 Research Platforms: areas of focus in which we are, or have the potential to be, world-class.
- Build a Strong Research and Knowledge Exchange Culture.
- Increase Research and KE income.
- Deliver economic, social and cultural impact
- Ensure research enriches the student learning and translation into practice.
- Achieve an excellent result for REF2021 & KEF
At this point in the implementation we have determined three of the research platforms which will provide a focus for the application and impact of our Research and Knowledge Exchange. The three Platforms are:
Healthy, independent lives
Future economies
Thriving, inclusive communities
The Creating Knowledge pillar board in HWB has incorporated the CKIP into our workplan for the coming year. Please do look out for opportunities both for development and funding as the implementation gets underway. Across HWB and the other faculties we will be working first on developing our strategic areas for investment – more information will be forthcoming.
A SHU-wide conference will be held on Monday 18th June at City Campus focusing on the Platforms and progress with the strategy – please save the date and plan to take part.
