Have you noticed the yellow bikes dotted around the city?

No, the Grand Depart is not back, the bikes are from Ofo; the dock-free bike scheme, launched here in Sheffield on 9th January. Similar to the Boris Bike scheme in London, the rental requires the Ofo app to locate a nearby bike, and then you simply scan the QR code on the back of the bike and go! The charge is 50p every half hour with a daily cap of £5. Once you’ve finished, simply lock and leave the bike wherever is convenient for you.

In the future you will be able to leave the bike at one of the virtual cycling ‘hubs’ at each of the campuses and at selected student accommodation. The scheme provides the perfect way to try cycling without the commitment, so encourage your friends and colleagues to get on one of the 1000 bikes across the city!

For more information, or to download the app, please visit the Ofo website.
