As the faculty intranet (Sharepoint site) is one of the key ways to communicate with staff and the current intranet is not working as it should, a project to develop a new intranet has been initiated, for launch Autumn 2017.
Background
The Health and Wellbeing Communications Review took place in February and March 2017 to gain insight into how internal communications were viewed across the faculty; look for areas to improve; find out how staff wanted to be communicated with; and identify priorities going forward.
- 99 people took part in a survey, this equates to 18% of the faculty’s employees
- 11 people took part in one of three focus groups held in March 2017
The results showed that staff felt well informed but communication needed to be improved to enable greater engagement across the faculty. The intranet was identified as a priority area for improvement; you did not use it to find information and only 11% felt it is an effective way of communicating.
Information is out of date, hard to find and difficult to edit. Site permissions are problematic and unsupportable by DTS. Many of our Faculty SharePoint sites have been set up to be connected to the intranet which means deleting it and starting again could be problematic.
Next steps
The new site will be a one-stop shop for all business information and communications and to ensure the site is built for you, the users we need to ensure we capture your requirements for the intranet. You can contact: Jane Gardner-Florence, Faculty Operations and Communications Manager: j.gardner-florence@shu.ac.uk to:
- Identify pages / information / libraries you want to see on the new site
- Are worried about losing content from the existing Sharepoint site
- Would like to be involved in user-testing in October
