Responsibilities of Lecturers during a fire

As a lecturer you have responsibility for the safety of the students you are supervising.  This includes summoning of first aid and/or ambulances when a student is injured or ill.  It also includes ensuring that students safely evacuate the building and go to the assembly point, whenever the fire alarm is activated.

This is particularly important in buildings where there are few/no trained fire marshals (such as Aspect Court and Eric Mensforth at city campus and the Main Building and the Mews at collegiate crescent campus).

Here is a poster that provides more details about these responsibilities:

You may have already seen it because it should be on or near to lecterns in every teaching room throughout the University.

Other information is provided in section 2 of the University Fire Safety Manual
