In a little under five weeks D&S staff will begin moving into Charles Street, and from 4 April the building will be fully open to staff, students and visitors. It promises to be a very exciting time after all the hard work that has gone in to getting us to this point.

The lecture theatre has been in use since 8 February and the initial feedback is already very positive. The final bits of the SHU fit out are currently being completed as planned in the rest of the building and, as you may have noticed if you’ve walked past this week, the external works are finished and the area is currently being cleaned and tidied.

The contractors Balfour Beatty are demobilising the site cabins in the Science Park car park over the next couple of weeks. However in order to finalise the remaining snagging within Charles St they have requested some temporary space for their management office, and we have been able to accommodate this on the third floor. This has been approved on the basis that it must be fully removed and made good by Monday 14 March ahead of staff moves from Monday 21 March.

A number of induction tours are being planned from w/b 29 Feb to give staff who will be teaching or moving in to Charles Street a chance to tour the building and familiarise themselves with the learning and teaching spaces available before 21 March.  The Charles Street and Arundel BIGs (Building Information Guides) will be available before the end of February, providing some key operational information for colleagues who will occupy the building ahead of staff moves and general teaching.

Opportunities for other staff to visit the building before teaching begins are also being planned. More details will appear on the Future Spaces blog.
