The University has taken possession of block A of the former Head Post Office (HPO) and staff have begun to move into our new Sheffield Institute of Arts ahead of the start of teaching on 25 January 2016.

All services within block A – including reception, security, servicing and maintenance – will be managed and operated by the University’s facilities directorate. Magna locks have been installed in all staff areas. IT and AV provision for teaching will be available from 25 January with the exception of the Post Hall (the new showcase/exhibition space) which will follow in February. Catering will also be available on site from mid-February.

Opening hours are 8am – 9pm Monday to Friday, with weekend hours to be confirmed. Internal and external CCTV cameras have been installed which will be monitored by the central security team.

A Building Information Guide (BIG) has been developed to assist staff moving into HPO. This includes floor and building plans, and information on IT and health and safety.

There will be ongoing works in the building after 18 January and, as is inevitable with a refurbishment project of this size, there will undoubtedly be a few teething problems as we bed down into the building. Work continues on blocks B, D, E and F and these will be completed in phases by Easter 2016. For health and safety reasons, neither students nor unauthorised staff should enter the rest of HPO or the rear service yard.
