Wednesday 27th June saw the launch of the ‘Eat Well’ Social which featured a live cooking demonstration delivered by ‘Executive Chef’- Darren Procter, followed by lunch prepared by his team. The event was hosted at Hallam View in the City campus and was organised as part of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Services new ‘Wellbeing’ strategy.
What we eat and drink has an impact on our physical health, mental wellbeing and performance at work.
We consume at least a third of our daily calories whilst at work, and what we eat and drink affects our work performance as well as our health. Eating healthily can help to improve concentration and boost our energy levels, as well as reducing levels of stress, and drinking plenty of water prevents headaches, fatigue and dizziness from dehydration.
During the 20 minute live presentation, Darren prepared and presented a total of three dishes all of which were cauliflower based in front of the guests who attended.
The dishes consisted of:
- Cauliflower Steak
- Cauliflower Pakora
- Roasted Cauliflower Florets
Cauliflower is an extremely healthy vegetable that’s a significant source of nutrients. It also contains unique plant compounds that may reduce the risk of several diseases, including heart disease and cancer. Additionally, it’s weight loss friendly and incredibly easy to add to your diet.
Following on from the live presentation including questions and answers, guests were treated to a buffet lunch of featured dishes and side dishes. The event was a huge success and received praise and positive feedback from attendees and provided an opportunity to network with colleagues and learn about healthy eating and food.
Guests had kindly donated £2 each for entry and a total of £84 was raised for the ‘Hallam Fund’
The Next event is a repeat of this on July 11th, at Collegiate Campus, RWB, room 514, from 12.30-1.30pm and can be booked through Eventbrite. A £2 donation to the Hallam fund charity will be collected at the door.
