Mental Health Awareness Week: 14 May – 20 May 2018.

This issue of Eview comes in the middle of Mental Health Awareness Week. This year, the focus is on stress, one of the big drivers behind the rise in mental ill health. Stress can be a contributing factor to a number of mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. If you’re struggling, don’t forget to visit the staff wellbeing site which outlines the on-going support that is available at the university all year round and has advice for managing stress.

SHU’s policy on stress at work has recently undergone a review, driven by commitments made as part of the Hallam Deal to create a positive culture with a focus on staff engagement and wellbeing.

The new policy was approved at a recent meeting of the University Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee and is available here. The policy includes a new stress risk assessment form and reinforces the need to proactively manage the potential causes of stress in the workplace. The launch of this policy will be supported by a new Managing Stress in the Workplace course for managers. This can be booked through Core Portal.
