In response to customer feedback and to support the University’s sustainability and waste management priorities, Catering Services are trialling an innovative cup recycling unit; these have previously been unable to be recycled due to waste contamination issues. The new recycling units provide separate compartments for customers to empty their waste and also to separate the cup from the lids. The separated cups are then recycled. The units have been produced by Veolia as part of their Innovation Centre project and we are the first university in the country to trial this unit.
The units are currently sited at Hallam Central, Cutting Edge and the Granary at the Heart of the Campus on a pilot basis for three months and if successful, these will be fully rolled out across all our catering outlets.
