Free legal advice at Heart of the Campus

For over 20 years, law students at Sheffield Hallam have provided award-winning free legal advice to staff, students and members of the public. The students currently work out of the HKC Law Clinic, based in the Helena Kennedy Centre for International Justice in the Heart of the Campus building on Collegiate Campus.

All student work is supervised by legal professionals, including practising solicitors, with years of experience in legal practice.

We provide a full service to our clients – undertaking interviews, fully researching their matters and providing advice or documentation to help them with their legal issues.

Over the years, students have helped clients with matters including consumer disputes, tenancy disputes, drafting wills and powers of attorney, company registrations, small claims cases and family law issues. However, we regret that we are currently unable to advise on criminal law matters, employment law cases, immigration issues or debt matters; and we are unable to accept instructions from any person who wishes to pursue a claim against a university or Sheffield Hallam University, its governors, employees or students.

HKC Law Clinic provides a highly professional service, and all advice, assistance and representation is given in the strictest confidence.

We have been awarded the Advice Quality Standard accreditation from the Advice Services Alliance in recognition of the quality of the advice that we provide.

HKC Law Clinic will be taking on new clients from the end of January 2018. If you need legal advice on any of the areas that we cover, please do not hesitate to contact the clinic on ext 2504 or email law-clinic@shu.ac.uk for a new client enquiry form.
