Childcare costs government scheme

In April 2017 the government introduced a new scheme for working parents to help pay with childcare costs.  For every £8 that a parent pays into an account for an ‘approved childcare’ provider, the government will top this up by £2, up to the value of £2000 per year, per child.

Information about Tax Free Childcare can be found on the Childcare Choices website, along with information on others ways that can help support parents with childcare costs.

At the University we will continue to provide a childcare vouchers scheme with the provider Computershare.  This enables employees to purchase up to £243 of vouchers per month saving on tax and national insurance contributions.  Employees can continue to join this scheme until April 2018, after which new entrants will not be permitted (but those already in the scheme before that date can continue with it for as long as needed).
