Greg Burke recently joined SHU on secondment from DfE to lead South Yorkshire Futures. This is an area-based programme of work convened by our University which will contribute to the government’s agenda for social mobility through:
- Building a shared vision for the role of education in improving social mobility in South Yorkshire;
- Raising standards of attainment across South Yorkshire;
- Providing a framework for improving school leadership; and
- Supporting improved progression into higher education and work.
Following the publication of our University Strategy and implementation plan in February, one of the University’s top priorities for the next three years is:
“…Drive long term improvements in the educational health of the region by working with partners to improve aspiration and attainment levels from early years through to further and higher education.”
Greg is hosting some upcoming briefings for staff, which will provide an update on the programme and to help colleagues across SHU see how their work might support this programme. Greg is keen to hear views from as many people as possible, so please do come along.
The briefings are being held at the following times:
- Monday 10 July, 10-11am, HC.0.29 (Collegiate Campus)
- Thursday 13 July, 10-11am, Charles Street 12.5.08 (City Campus)
There is no need to pre-book to attend either event; if you have any questions, please contact Linda Greaves on ext.3779.
