Stunning new space unveiled at City Campus

Open House events on Thursday 20 April

Work was completed this week on a two-year refurbishment of Sheaf and EMB that has included the creation of a stunning atrium linking the two buildings.

The atrium, which was handed to the University on 4 April, is the centrepiece of an £11 million development to support high-quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) activities. As well as the atrium – which boasts galleries, collaborative spaces and social learning and provides access from the train station – the development includes a cutting-edge chemistry lab and modern new engineering provision. The refurbishment presents a great opportunity for us to improve both the student and staff experience in these locations.

The atrium will remain closed to staff and students until Monday 24 April, to allow time to ensure the space is fully operational and address any immediate snagging issues. However staff will have an opportunity to take a sneak peek inside the brand new atrium, and other refurbished areas, on an ‘open house’ event on Thursday 20 April.

ACES staff are invited to visit from 10am – 11.30am and the afternoon session, from 2pm – 3.30pm, is open to all staff. Booking is not required but staff are encouraged to register interest in attending to give an idea of numbers. Everyone registering will receive an email with further information about the event.

Huge credit goes to the whole team that have helped to bring this project to a successful conclusion, including project manager Brian Badger and the estates and facilities management teams, contractor Houltons and colleagues in ACES. Thanks to everyone for their hard work over the last two years.
