The Herd of Sheffield is on its way

A stampede of elephants will be making their way into the city for the summer.

The Herd of Sheffield will see 58 uniquely decorated elephants going on display across the city from Monday 11 July to Friday 6 October.  They will then be auctioned off later this year with all proceeds going to The Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.

Sheffield Hallam has sponsored two of the elephants, one on behalf of the Sheffield Institute of Arts and one on behalf of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, which will be on display at City Campus soon.

The large elephants will be joined by smaller elephants designed by local schools and will appear in herds across the city – some of which have already taken up residence by Owen reception where children and families can take part in the Little Herd treasure hunt across the university every Monday to Friday from 9am – 4pm.

An interactive app for your phone will be available from Herd of Sheffield next week with a number of features:

  • a map showing locations of all the elephants
  • stories behind the large and little herds, including artist and sponsor information
  • record all sculptures that you find along the trail
  • post updates to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
  • exclusive offers available to trail followers
