Team Hallam runs the Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield

Staff at Sheffield Hallam are lacing up their running shoes to take on the stunning (but steep!) Plusnet Yorkshire Half Marathon-Sheffield this Sunday to raise money for the Sheffield Hallam Care Leavers’ Fund, which aims to help aspiring students in foster care who want to study at University and create their own futures.

Ally Mogg and Laurie Harvey, from the News and PR Team, and Sarah Schofield, from Student Transition and Progression, will be taking on the hilly 13.1 mile challenge; some of their training has been chronicled on the Giving to Hallam blog.

We believe that anyone who is offered a place to study at University deserves the same opportunities and support they need to succeed. Care leavers often face difficulties that other students just don’t have to consider- for example, knowing you have guaranteed accommodation 365 days a year, or that you have someone to speak to for support when you can’t just call home for a chat after a stressful day.

  • £10 could pay for a ticket to a gig during Freshers’ Week.
  • £70 could hire a graduation gown for a student’s graduation ceremony.
  • £110 could pay a student’s membership fee for the Snow Sports Society, plus three hours of tuition to get them started.
  • £200 could allow a student to take a two-week voluntary placement, vital for their CV.

If you’re planning on running the race, why not be part of the Sheffield Hallam team? All you need to do is email Nicole Kelly at n.kelly@shu.ac.uk to let us know you’d like to join the team and make sure you’re signed up to the marathon here – http://www.runforall.com/half-marathon/yorkshire/

If you’re not a runner, you can still help make a difference to students’ lives by showing your support for Laurie, Ally and Sarah by donating if you can and sharing the link to donate on social media: https://www.justgiving.com/Team-Hallam

Please help us make a huge difference to someone’s life.

Good luck to Team Hallam for Sunday!
