Stone cold: frost testing and the deterioration and conservation of building materials
Wednesday 17 June at 6pm – Room 210, Norfolk Building
This lecture will draw upon twenty years of research and consultancy experience to discuss the testing, deterioration and remediation of structures constructed of stone and brick. An evaluation of the lessons from work undertaken for the Building Research Establishment and English Heritage will be presented. Recent work has focussed on the feasibility of production of stone roofing slates from the Collyweston Limestone and the proprietary frost testing of historic brick masonry for potential re-use as engineering fill. The lecture will introduce some provocative thoughts on some of the future challenges faced by the sector.
Places are free and include light refreshments, but must be booked in advance.
