Update to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) – laptop users

If you use a University-owned laptop off-site, you probably connect to the network via the Virtual Private Network (VPN). From today we will be releasing an update to this to improve security and upgrade it to a version which is supported by the supplier. It will look slightly different – although you probably won’t notice a change in the way it works.

You will need to leave your laptop turned on but logged out while you are in the University for around 15 minutes to allow the update to install. This can be done at lunchtime or overnight. It’s good practice to do this regularly to ensure any security patches or software upgrades are deployed to your machine. You don’t need to do this with desktop PCs because IS&T can automatically wake up these computers overnight and install any updates.
