Tour de France – Open Meetings for staff

A series of open meetings for staff to find out what we are doing as part of our Tour de France sponsorship agreement and the benefits to the University of this Project will be held in April and May. Further details on dates and times can be found on the Staff Intranet.

Our partnership with the Tour de France demonstrates our long-term commitment to providing a unique learning experience for our students.

It means we can provide volunteer opportunities for students that they would be unable to experience at any other university, letting them put what we teach into practice at the world’s largest free sporting event.

Our students will play a key role in our Tour activities, including the following.

  • Creative students will develop designs for our vehicles in the official caravan, showcasing their original ideas to an audience of millions.
  • Event management students will be working with Welcome to Yorkshire to deliver a series of hospitality events before and during the race.
  • Performing arts students will help to organise and be part of a community theatre production drawing on the city’s history, giving them valuable theatre production experience.
  • Sports and event management students will be able to help organise a series of public events and lectures featuring famous faces from the world of sport and cycling.

Benefiting the whole Sheffield region

Through our profile during the Tour we will promote the city region as a destination of choice to attract business and investment opportunities to benefit the regional economy.

Our official sponsorship will enable us to work with regional businesses on projects to raise their profile and encourage growth, through collaborative working and sharing expertise.

These business links will allow us to develop partnerships that last long after the Tour has finished, providing work placements and graduate employment opportunities, and helping give our students the edge in a crowded job market.
