Military Education Committee seeking volunteers

The MEC (Military Education Committee) has existed for over 100 years, one of a number created by the Privy Council to ensure that military training while at university – nowadays through an OTC, Air Squadron or Royal Naval Unit – does not compromise students’ academic progress.

Mike Heselton, a lecturer in the Department of Computing, has become the first person from Sheffield Hallam to chair the Sheffield Universities’ MEC.  Originally a University of Sheffield committee, it is now a joint committee and has grown into an essential link between all three Services and both Sheffield universities.

Mike is keen to hear from anyone who has served in the Forces (however long ago!) or who is just interested in the changing role of Britain’s Armed Forces, and who might like to be involved with the MEC and its work.  Please contact m.heselton@shu.ac.uk
