A world-renowned, female scholar has kicked off the Sheffield Science and Engineering Festival with an inspirational talk about women in science at Sheffield Hallam University.
Dame Athene Donald, professor of experimental physics at Cambridge University, spoke to academics and staff about her successful career in science during an event that looked to inspire and encourage women to progress in their academic careers.
Professor Donald was also joined by Sheffield Heeley MP, Meg Munn who is a major supporter of the University’s efforts to promote gender equality and increase the number of women working in and studying science, technology, engineering and maths subjects (STEM).
The city-wide Science and Engineering Festival, running from 14 to 23 March, is organised by Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield, and offers people the opportunity to learn more about the world-leading research taking place across the region. This year scientists will take visitors on a scientific ‘Tour de France’, a geological tour of Sheffield General Cemetery, and look at and why chocolate tastes good.
