The aims of the course are to make staff aware of what asbestos is, the hazards it presents and who is at risk.
It also aims to help staff understand where asbestos can be found, be aware of the duties laid on the University by current legislation, and to ensure the University’s policy on asbestos and the procedures for dealing with it are understood and implemented.
The course is intended for staff in the Facilities Directorate and Student and Learning Services who may carry out activities thjat could potentially put them at risk from the release of asbestos fibres. This would include accessing plant rooms, risers and roof voids or carrying out any invasive work, such as drilling.
