Preparing teaching rooms for new academic year

A list of new software requested by academic staff for teaching rooms has been agreed.  Once software has been packaged, it can be installed into PC labs. Before then, IS&T staff would like the teaching staff who requested the software to test it and make sure it works in the way they expect.

Existing software will continue to be available.  A Software in PC Labs list is available showing what will be installed in each room including a reimaging schedule.

Audio Visual Cyclical Replacement

We are also replacing the Audio Visual systems in teaching rooms in the Robert Winston and Cantor buildings. These are progressing to schedule with no major issues and we anticipate this will be completed as planned before the start of semester.

PC Replacement

The cyclical replacement of old PCs with processors below 2.66GHz is also underway and over half of the 1200s PCs have already been replaced. We are currently prioritising PCs of academic staff.  Staff will be contacted by IT Support to arrange the upgrades and all old PCs are scheduled to be replaced by the end of October.

At City Campus, 17 of the 18 student PC labs which were planned to be replaced this year have already been completed. The remaining room was scheduled for 13 September.  At Collegiate, the replacement programme is in progress and on schedule to be completed by 23 September.
