14 August
From 1 August, individual teams are being charged for all printing as well as photocopying done on staff printers – and the charging will vary according to which type of printer is used. Up until this point, only photocopying and MFD (Multi-Function Device) printing was charged per use. Non-MFD printing costs were not recharged. These changes have been taken into account in allocating budgets so the new process will give faculties and directorates greater visibility over their printing costs.
We are also planning to introduce some tools to help individual staff monitor how much printing they do and also decide the cheapest (and most environmentally-friendly) method of outputting each of their print jobs. This should encourage staff to think carefully about the way they print and consider alternatives – such as choosing to print in black and white or sending a job to the print unit – or whether hard copies are necessary at all.
