When you are starting a new research project, you will need to consider a number of issues relating to research data management and sharing. These issues are relevant whether your research is funded by an external sponsor or not.
Writing a Data Management Plan is an important first step when you are still in the pre-project stage. Your Data Management Plan is a living document — you can refer to it later on in the project, and make changes to it when necessary. Some of the main things to consider are
- the research data management requirements from your funders and sponsor(s)
- any legal and ethical aspects of your research data such as copyright and ethical approval
