Registration now open for the 4th Sports Engineering Seminar Day

Registration is now open for the 4th Sports Engineering Seminar Day, hosted by the Centre for Sports Engineering Research and the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday 20th February 2020.

Please register here.

This is the latest instalment of the free, one-day, student-led event, bringing together prospective and current members of the sports engineering field, including students, researchers, academics and industrial partners. The primary aim of this year’s event is to inspire students – at all levels and from a range of disciplines – to pursue a successful career within the ever-growing field of sports engineering.

The event is being held at our Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre

The seminar day will be separated into key sessions:

• Industry Keynote Session – Presentations will be delivered by representatives from our industry partners, including the International Tennis Federation, English Institute of Sport and PING Golf. Attendees will learn about the work currently being done within the sports engineering field, as well as opportunities for publishing within Sports Engineering, the official journal of the ISEA.

• Student Speaking Competition – This will be a Three Minute Thesis (3MT) style competition challenging students to deliver a compelling spoken presentation on a chosen research topic and its significance ( . . . in just three minutes!). This will be an excellent opportunity for students to develop their communication skills and to share their research interests within the broader research community. Full competition rules and judging criteria can be found on the registration website. Prizes will be awarded for the best presentations.

• Student Alumni Q&A Session – Interactive Q&A with student alumni who are now working in a wide range of careers within the field of sports engineering. Our student alumni will provide first-hand experiences of their journeys from higher education into successful jobs and the skills they have learnt along the way.

• Panel Discussion – The day will culminate with a panel discussion made up of academic and industry experts discussing the topic of How to get a job in sports engineering. This will be an amazing opportunity to learn from established leaders within the industry, especially around the skills required to be successful. Make sure to have some good questions lined up!

The Student Speaking Competition is open to students at all levels. To enter, please contact isea2020committee@gmail.com to express your interest. You will need to submit a 100-word abstract of your chosen topic when registering for the seminar day event. The deadline for entering the Student Speaking Competition is Friday 24th January 2020. Applications will then be reviewed by the seminar day committee and a decision will be returned to all applicants by Friday 31st January.
