This week we are focusing on sustainability at SHU, including how we are striving to be a leading sustainable HE institution and how you can get involved as a staff member.
We are one of the largest universities in the UK. With over 30,000 students and more than 4,000 staff spread across two campuses, we are a large and diverse community.
Given the size and scope of what we do, we have a responsibility to ensure our activities do not have unnecessary and detrimental consequences on the environment. We monitor this through our certified environmental (ISO 14001) and energy (ISO 50001) management systems, identifying the most significant environmental impacts and working with stakeholders across the University to reduce them.
Our Environmental Policy establishes commitments aligned to these key environmental impacts whilst our Environmental Plan sets measurable targets for each policy area with a plan on how to achieve them. Each year progress can be seen in the Environmental Report.
