Sexual Violence Support training sessions – now available on CORE – a new set of staff training sessions have been set up for this academic year. Sessions are available from November to March.
Staff training on sexual violence support
Sadly evidence suggests that incidents sexual violence are more common than we might think and too often go unreported. Christina Hughes emailed all staff in September to announce the launch of ‘Report and Support’ – a new SHU online reporting system as a key part of SHU’s response to this important issue. There is also a small specialist sub-team within Student Wellbeing supporting students who experience sexual violence. Following high demand for training sessions across the summer a new set of training sessions has now been made available via CORE.
The following sessions are available:
Sexual Violence Reporting Introduction Session (45 mins)
These sessions are a basic introduction to sexual violence and how to signpost students to appropriate support within SHU. This will be helpful for all staff in student-facing roles. These sessions are soon to be available as online training, and may also be held as webinars, but attending in person offers the opportunity for brief questions/discussion at the end.
Sexual Violence Report and Support (Half-day workshop)
These interactive sessions are aimed at staff who are or are likely to be supporting students with issues around disclosures of sexual violence. The sessions will provide a supportive environment for staff dealing with student disclosures, guidance on what to say (or what not to say) and demonstrate how to link victims to a single specialist point of contact who can provide a safe space and advocate for them if needed.
All sessions can be booked via CORE
If there are areas who would like bespoke training / presentations at team meetings then please contact us to discuss your needs.
